The problem
Almost everything we picture while we speak goes unseen.
Since learning to paint in caves, humans have invented tools to share the mind's eye. Moving imagery still takes crews, software, and days. POSTER
Produced video
Days of work per minute of footage. POSTER
VJ loops
Pre-baked visuals, deaf to the words being spoken. POSTER
Prompt tools
Type, wait, render — nothing lives with the moment. POSTER
What is it
"AI is collapsing the gap between vocalization and visualization. Etherea turns speech into beautiful moving imagery within seconds." POSTER
For anyone with a voice and a screen — storytellers, musicians, radio producers, DJs — and the venues, brands, and funds that commission experiences around them. One engine, many markets: "the week an author and a wealth manager asked us for the same thing — interactive content — the studio model chose itself." POSTER
What it does
Five surfaces on one engine.
Visual Radio
Any audio paints itself — mic, broadcast, DJ set. POSTER
Voice Painting
Narrate, then share the film. POSTER
Style packs
Van Gogh to Neon Noir, one tap away. POSTER
SDK
One call, one live stream. POSTER
Captions on
Every screen, by default. POSTER
How it works
Speech in, painted stream out — end of sentence to emergence on screen in about three seconds.
Audio in
The Spatial Imagination System — rooms, zones, surfaces, and looks — repaints a whole house from one selection and "runs the three-story Roubini installation from a phone." POSTER
Built with: Easel (their compositor, stated open source) · FluxRT · Cue · Deepgram · Nemotron · WebRTC · NDI · Swift · Python · RunPod · Cloudflare. POSTER Easel repo link pending
The numbers
The team's own figures, as printed on their poster.
Who's building it
Two cofounders at General Semantics, Inc., Greenpoint, Brooklyn. POSTER WEB
James Barnes
"Six years at Facebook. First employee to flag the Cambridge Analytica data misuse. Now building technology that amplifies humanity." — their site's team page.
Gonzalo Gelso
"Digital artist and designer. Former D1 All-American. Creates beautiful, meaningful, interactive experiences across NYC." — their site's team page.
Where it's played
Real rooms, real commissions — not demo reels.
Nouriel Roubini's salon
A high-five-figure, three-story installation — closed and running, controlled from a phone. POSTER Confirm name use
The 1,500-person skyscraper show
The poster's "see it live" headline event. POSTER Pending approval
The Generative Stage
A permanent generative stage at The Convent, Greenpoint — "over nearly two years, thousands around the world have experienced Etherea," touring worldwide with a performer troupe. WEB
What's next
From the poster's roadmap.
Voice Painting → the App Store
The narrate-and-share film app, productized. POSTER
Commissions
Named on the poster: a Saudi fund's daily briefing; De Kai's audiobook. POSTER Pending approval
One-shottable SDK
"Apps in a prompt," plus the spatial system moving into new venues. POSTER
In their own words
How the team tells it — from their June 2026 cohort update, James Barnes presenting.
"Visualization is the heart of storytelling." The epigraph of the team's cohort poster POSTER
"The biggest swing will be visualizing podcasts and books — basically any audio source."
"Entertainment and fun as a wedge into a much larger market: real-time visualization of audio."
"The big challenge with the cloud is network latency — if you want live audio visualization, that's hard with a one-to-two-second network hop."
"We've built a whole zone-control system with the self-healing SDK — it understands when a projector is off and needs to be turned back on."
